In for a Penny: The Thorne of Rose street

Thayle shows his music intrests at the most daring of times When I saw Selserene's first episode of "In for a Penny" I had been waiting intently for it after the prologue, what I couldn't decide on was weather to wait for the story to be complete so I can review the clearly astonishing series as a whole, or just dive in a review the first episode which was equally astonishing.

I try to do the smart thing but the devil will only tempt me again.

A large complaint about Warcraft Movies is that machinima with blood elves is everywhere, and I think that that's true because all blood elves and their city of Silvermoon has this great story to tell some where, and a lot of blood elf machinima is there to attempt to tell that story: blood elf rap is effective as it reflects the arrogance of blood elf culture.

But no one has found a way to show this character of blood in such an effective way as Selserne has. Film Noir has all the right themes of crime and lust and depression that it conveys this character of the blood elves so well that Selserne doesn't even need to mention addiction.

To gain a firm genre of Noir Selserne has rightly introduced alien set pieces; we see all the playable races in Silvermoon, and we gain a sense of minority; we see pianos, cigarettes, playing cards, blood elf eyes and wanted posters made with beautiful art, so we can see the familiar setting of Silvermoon city in an entirely new, and stunning way.

And I see the Film Noir setting hitting all the right notes with the characters, the narration, the greed, the hate and the sex hits all the right notes with the characters: in just 40 mins of machnima, I am witnessing the richest characters I've seen to date.

Thayle is witty but clearly motivated; Thorne you have no doubt will brake through walls for justice, but is some how troubled; Gilmmy is the coolest gnome and can crack a joke at anyone, but at the same time as hiding a wanted man,  yet seems the most intelligent and good hearted; Leda is clearly deceitful, vain, and will probably bite the head off anyone that points that out, but she has such grace; and Nora, nora can been seen in the 40mins constantly declining in search for money, sex, and finally revenge, but I can't help feeling sorry for her; only in her last moments does she do any thing behind any one's back, which made her death amazingly effective to the story and her character.

The rich visuals of the characters' movement, their actions, and the art they do this in are a credit to Selserene; the limited polygons of the models that a machinimarist must work with must be really clunky to work with in black and white, and yet this is still a beautiful series. But let me not forget the talented voice acting; the characters are all the sweeter because of the voices they are given. Take a screen shot of the credits viewers! These names will belong to stars.  It's a shame that the original voice actor for Thayle had to be replaced, but considering he was replaced with Cranius, maybe it isn't all too bad; Cranius has the perfect voice and identity to play Thayle, in fact, I would say that Cranius' voice makes Thayle seem more like he's motivated and heading some where, and hopefully not the gallows, the great scene where he rejects Nora's approach just reminds us that this character is incredibly motivated.

Which does this chapter of the story credit, as it brings right to the fore front the question of who killed the chief two years ago, I'm wrapped up in this mystery, within minieuts of "The Thorn of Rose street" I had strong doubts that it was Thorn that killed his chief, which tossed out all sorts of questions, I've found my self sucked into this drama asking who the true murder was, did Thorn do it for the promotion, and that was why he refused to release the transcript of the first trial? Did Leda do it to dispose of Thayle so that she could bed with the new chief of the SMPD? Did the mystirous X do it for his own ends, and to harden Thayle into a criminal? Or perhaps maybe it was the news reporter Emerson? who seems no cleaner than the rest, and so interested in the progress on Thayle's re-arrest.

This drama is taking more of my thought time than most of prime time telivision! I'm certainly planning to refresh Selserne's blog constantly for the next few months in search of the third chapter.

All I hear is Machinima Gaga, and it's so good I thought I would leave my thoughts on the best of it!
