Whowho's Review of Cranius, Summer, and Legs' ULDUAR
When I first saw this on Wow insider's movie watch my first thought was "Cranius... rapping!?" and really that meant that the first time I watched this, all I did was listen to Cranius's voice, and I'm amazed he's pushed him self further into doing a form of singing that would be the last thing I would expect him to do, and doing it flawlessly.
But after the first 6 watchings I started to listen to the actually lyrics and actually watch what was going on. Legs produced the visuals for this piece incredibly quickly, which is necessary for something as topical as this, and yet there's not a fault to be found! The movie starts with a stunning zoom-in to the purple parlor over Dalaran and it really grabs your attention even though it's so simple. Then bring on the trolls and rave dancing! I don't know much about visual elements like how to best go from one theme to the next, but it's clear Legs does, as Ulduar just feels great to look at. You can really feel the emotions between Cranius' and Summer's characters, so much so that you can tell that at some point Summer is getting a big waft of death knight bad breath, you get the feeling that this relationship (How ever fictional) is verging on something more strained, but there's still a great feeling of attraction between the characters; there's a lovely millisecond at 2.07 where we can see Summer tap Cranius on the chest, and it's so humam, at 1.35 we have a lovely black and white shot of Cranius just as Summer starts her argument for PvE, and the look on his face is just the smallest bit of disgust, Haha, it's just so good!
Legs is the master puppeteer of wow machinima, if she can make a skeleton look like a puppet terrorist, I'm only slightly surprised she can make these avatars full of emotion and character. With out doubt the superb singing and lyrics helps character and emotion to no end as well of course.
When we first see the characters they're at a rave of sorts, you know, close ups of troll's mouths as they say "Yeah!" you get the feeling that these characters are super stars (Possibly their voice actors are in the machinima community) but we quickly learn that they are just awfal players when put out of their comfort zones, as Cranaius states that he hasn't a single achievement (WHAT!?) and we see poor Summer one shotted by a body hoping mage, and like all characters in wow machinima I really find my self relating to them, not only with the help of Leg's animation and the singing, but the line "Invite me girl" floored me as being both the most awesome and lame thing a music star has ever said, I think any one with a wow character can relate to these characters.
The last thing I want to say about Ulduar (Apart from starting that I think of Cranius as the Clint Eastwood of PvP) is that it is amazingly topical, a few days ago I was talking about how no Machinima other than "How to Paladin" has been successful in showing current and past in game trends of the community, but Ulduar Really proves me wrong, and in patches to come, if I ever want to remember all the QQ about the lack of endgame raid content at the start of Wrath, I will watch this video. Because we all know that we'd prefer to hear Summer's Troll than the forums'.
