I'd like to see some dialogue about an idea I thought of. This idea was a result of one of Clint's posts:

We all have our favorite songs. But the problem with using them in anything is you need to have a liscense from the copyright owner to do it. Even if obtaining a liscense from the artist is possible, it may often take a very long time to gain approval, perhaps longer than one is willing to wait.
While this is annoying, it made me think of the other artists without huge companies backing them. It's hard for people to get their music out there without any sort of publicity, and this is where machinimists could help. Making a good music video to one of those songs could greatly enhance their exposure, thus solving the copyright problem and the exposure problem.
I'm probably not the only person to think of this. But I'd like to hear what people think.

I'd be interested in hearing what other people think of this. I would guess that finding these so called "unexposed" artists would be the main issue of the endeavor. Plus, I've known machinima that feature songs of little known artists, because they enjoyed the song so much, only to have the artists yank them away anyways.

I base almost all my project ideas around music from lesser-known artists, pointing viewers in the right direction to support the musician. It helps that I listen to a lot of obscure music, but the point still stands.

Well,I think colleges are a good place to find unknown artists. A lot of people get into a garage band or something. It's just a matter of finding one you like, then asking if you can use one of their songs for a machinima, i would think.
